STICK FIGURE DUNGEON HAS ENDED. SEE NEWS FOR DETAILS.
Last Update: FRI 12/11/09, "Mumble incoherently"
NEWS: (12/14/09) Well I can't say I didn't warn of this day. I stood loyally with my picket sign outside telling that the end is near for months, and few have headed my warning. So now, as the apocalypse is upon us, I say...
Wait, the apocalypse isn't upon us?
Whoops, wrong blog. Forget I said anything.
So yep. SFD is over. Why? Several reasons. Part of the problem is with the way I set up the suggestions, and simple time management issues. Part of the problem was the story itself, which at times felt like it was either going away from the main plot, or was adhering it too closely (read: user suggestions were superfluous). It is difficult to write a story that strikes a balance between these two extremes. In fact, I believe my main problem was the writing itself; I always thought that my art was crap, and I needed to focus on that aspect, when in reality I couldn't write that much better, and the writing is much more significant to this mode of storytelling.
Why would anyone feel emotionally attached to a character the audience never sees directly? If I were to make a poll right now, I bet most people would vote for Pookie or Campfire Demon, or possibly the king or Professor Whipplesnapple. I don't know for sure, but what I do know is that nobody will vote for the protagonist. What seemed like a brilliant plot device turned out to be a terrible writing technique in the long run.
Why would anyone feel inclined to keep reading this gobbledygook? Wow, I can't believe Firefox accepts gobbledygook as a word... according to dictionary.com it's an actual word! But I digress. In the beginning I thought my humor would be enough to keep readers coming back, and I do believe my humor has been somewhat effective. But this isn't a typical newspaper comic strip, and so the humor is meaningless without a strong foundational basis to the storyline.
But enough of the bad news.
What all this means is that SFD was merely a learning experience; the REAL adventure begins now.
I am still figuring out which site service to use (currently it's between Smack Jeeves and Blogger) but either way I plan to use my forum more extensively in conjunction with the webcomic. You may reach me at the forum if you have any questions (link found below).
I encourage you all to sign up at the forum, although I will make sure that anyone can leave suggestions, not just those who are members.
Pie out.

135 - Mumble incoherently
You mumble some incomprehensible babble."I suppose 'awake' isn't the most appropriate term to use at the moment."
The man turns on the lights and disengages the locking mechanism on your arms. You move your arms around, testing your newly granted freedom. You also ask about the location of your stuff, including your best friend forever Pookie.
"Your stuff is safe, but we don't have time to get to it now. I need you to get out of here, hide low for a while, and I'll get your stuff for you later."

134 - Jump on CAN to smash it
Your TAPE CAN may have been a failed experiment, but you won't let it go to waste! Without any SCISSORS nearby to let your rage out on, you decide to crush the CAN instead. It's like jumping into a pile of leaves, only instead of leaves flying everything a deluge of soda spills out. This is incredibly silly, but so much fun!
With each jump you can feel the CAN weakening, its body slowly being crushed. It's only a matter of time before it cracks.
--------------------
You wake up in a chair, your arms bound to it. Your vision is fuzzy and the lights are out, so you can't see very well. A familiar voice calls out to you:"It's about time you woke up."

133 - Make something creative with TAPE and CAN
All right, you're going to make the coolest thing imaginable....this is not very cool.
In fact, it is rather lame.
I guess it's to be expected. After all, ROCKS are notorious for having low IMAGINATION stats. You're not sure why you thought this would be a good idea.

132 - Rock this town!
It's not really a town. It's more of a table.Although a table this rocking deserves to be a rocking town, so you decide to call it Table Town. Your friend the mighty boulder approves.
Now let's get ready to ROCK THIS TOWN!

131 - Apologize to boulder
Sensing that your new friend the boulder doesn't appreciate your playful spirit, you jump off and apologize. As always the boulder has a stern look on its face and doesn't respond, although its intense anger has subsided. Easy come, easy go, as they say.You ask the boulder if he would like to join you on your quest to find a pair of SCISSORS and crush them.

129 - Summon Pookie to tickle boulder
Pookie? What is a Pookie? The memory of a rock is quite solid, and you would certainly remember a name such as that. No, you are certain that you have never heard of a being by the name of "Pookie."

128 - Tickle boulder
You don't have any hands with which to tickle it! You don't even have arms, for that matter.--------------------
Instead you opt to roll into the boulder, giving it a friendly nudge. The boulder tries its best to keep a straight face.-

126 - Jump off mountain
That sounds like a really terrible idea, actually. Even if you wanted to kill yourself, it would be more honorable to go the way of the warrior, fusing yourself with your weapon to make a single entity before Death sweeps you up in His clutches. Besides, there are pointy rocks down there; your death would be slow and painful. And yet...
...something beckons you downwards.
Something feels odd. You're not quite sure what it is. Suddenly jumping seems like the only choice. You want to back out, but your legs act on their own; you stumble off and roll into the dust below.
--------------------
You are pretty sure you are dead. Or something.
You've never died before so you're not quite sure what it feels like. You seem to be conscious, but incapable of movement. For the moment there is nothing you can do.
All around you is darkness.
Wait...

125 - Eat DRAGOBIRD
Eat the DRAGOBIRD? Not in the condition it's in thank you very much. After your brutal assault has passed and you regain your senses, you grow sick at the sight and smell of the corpse. You turn around and try to find your way back to the path, taking your mind off the butchered bird behind you.
You can barely make out the path in the distance, along with some other bizarre structures. You're not sure which way to go.

124 - Attack DRAGOBIRD
Oh.Oh God.
Why would you... that doesn't even....
Eww.
Stop. Please.
You're a sick, twisted little man.
No, I refuse to draw that.
It's already dead! Just stop!
Okay...
--------------------
After brutally massacring the MOHAWKED DRAGOBIRD, you pilfer the EGG as some kind of vengeful prize. It is fairly large and hefty, but it easily fits into your BAG.-

123 - Blind bird with MIRROR
You take out your trusty MIRROR and turn its reflective surface towards the DRAGOBIRD's face, blinding it. In its shock, it lifts its leg up, and you quickly reequip your stolen weapon. The bird is stunned, but not for long.

122 - Get your AX back
You chase the fearsome bird back to its nest in order to retrieve the AX it stole. You try summoning some DOUGHNUTS to appease its hurt feelings, but it won't have any! Diplomacy is simply out of the question, but there might be room for ingenuity yet, if you can just think of something...

121 - Offer food
Just because you started learning the way of the warrior doesn't mean you have to fight every enemy you find!Surely this is a time to practice the art of diplomacy, and what better way to show your peaceful intention of coexistence than to offer some food. You use the most advanced deli technique you know to summon a HOT DOG, and gingerly hand it to the MOHAWKED DRAGOBIRD. While keeping your other hand firmly grasped on the BEGINNER'S AX, just to be safe. Because tightly holding a weapon in your hand is no sign of aggression, no sir!
--------------------
The MOHAWKED DRAGOBIRD is a vegetarian! You offend it with your offering of meat!
Well, at least this means it has no intention of eating you and, by extension, no intention of fighting you.

120 - Redraw path
What is this? Is this supposed to be a MOUNTAIN RANGE? It is so poorly drawn you can't even figure out where the path is! Who drew this nonsense? No, this will not do. Try again!
--------------------
There is a new MOUNTAIN RANGE before you. You are not quite sure how this change came about. Clearly, it was all an hallucination.Clearly.
Anyway, now that you are no longer under the spell of whatever wizard possessed your wits, you can continue on your journey. You keep a tight grip on your BEGINNER'S AX as you march forward.
--------------------
Gadzooks! You run across some kind of... BIRD... THING...
A MOHAWKED DRAGOBIRD. Yes, that's it.
It looks very angry.

119 - Get KINDLE from CAMPFIRE
You stop by the CAMPFIRE to pick up some more KINDLE so you can summon your friend the CAMPFIRE DEMON should you require his assistance again. You feel that (3) pieces are more than sufficient.--------------------

118 - Head to mountains

You look off in the distance, and can see the mountains opposite the direction you came to reach the CASTLE. You know this by the CAMPFIRE to your left and the large TREE ahead. Getting to the mountains shouldn't be that difficult, but who knows how long the MOUNTAIN TRAIL is? I certainly don't!
No matter. With your newfound AX skills, you should be able to withstand whatever obstacles come your way.
