The guard gives you a puzzled look. He tells you that there never was and never will be a HIPPOPOTAMUS in the kingdom. The notion strikes him as silly and foolish. You are sure he is mistaken, or suffering from some sort of delusion, but you push the issue no further.He says that something bad has happened in the throne room, and that it is not the concern of civilians. Only GUARDS are allowed inside.

State that you are, in fact, working for the king. If he doesn't believe you, show him the shield he gave you as reward for slaying the dragon
